about

It was about a week before their A-Level study leave was due to begin when Alex and Dani, having missed the bus to school and killing time while waiting for the next one, hit upon the concept for so this is texas. Simple yet complex, brilliant yet controversial, the story provided the framework for the album. Indeed, almost all the tracks were decided upon at the start, and distributed equally between them for composition. The album was completed, start to finish, over the course of their A-Levels – the final track was recorded the night before the last exam.

The story begins with a strange calling. A calling to Texas. Those who feel it march there, unable to resist. There they set about plotting to blow up the entire of the rest of the world, other than Texas. They succeed! Unbeknownst to them, however, there is one survivor: a European by the name of Kid Viddy. When he realises what's happened, he rows over to the American continent, sneaks into Texas, and brings them down from the inside.

The original proposed ending to this album was quite depressing, with Texas having been brought down and all the humans essentially dead. However, at the last minute Dani wrote the rather more optimistic endsong. It was decided that this represented a form of hope; aliens had come down to Earth at the last minute and Viddy would escape on their ship. What happened next was left open to the imagination... until, that is, the 2009 release of "kid viddy and the cosmic space-beasts".
