about

"Uneasy Listening " is a sequence of compositions completed by Alex during 2003-2004. During this period he became interested in unconventional use of sounds and forms, drawing influence from Zappa, Varèse, Cage, Berio and "Noise".

Most of these tracks shun tradional instrumentation, for example "The Ship..." is a live performace where guitar effect pedals become the intrument and the guitar itself is merely for show. Many of them explore extended vocal techniques and extreme processing, such as the aggressive "Perimeter" and the cavernous "Mourning Wood"; others are simply designed to be unpleasent ("Ditty" and "Harsh Reality"). These early compositions went on to inform more controlled academic works, but in many ways, the rough-edged spontaneity remains this body of work's main charm.
